Q5. What happens when another anti-virus or firewall solution or both is removed during the remote installation of F-Secure PSB for Workstations?
This applies to the F-Secure Protection Service for Business version 3.0 and newer when installed by using the Remote Installation tool to a computer that already has another anti-virus or firewall solution or both in use.
The removal of another anti-virus or firewall solution or both is called 'sidegrading'. Sidegrading will uninstall the anti-virus and firewall products of other vendors. Once the uninstallation has been completed, the sidegrading process forces the computer to restart. This restart is necessary to ensure that the other anti-virus and firewall solutions are properly removed. Currently the restart occurs also when the "never reboot" parameter has been used with the Remote Installation tool.
At the same time, the Remote Installation tool turns on Windows Firewall to protect the computer from external attacks until F-Secure PSB for Workstations is installed. Once the F-Secure PSB installation is completed, Windows Firewall will be turned off as the F-Secure solution is already in place to protect the computer.
Please note that the installation of F-Secure PSB for Workstations will not continue after the restart until someone logs in to the computer the next time.
