Management Portal
Q4. The portal complains about an incorrect Java version even though the latest version has already been installed. Why?
This applies to F-Secure Protection Service for Business version 3.0 and newer.
In some cases the Profile Editor in the portal server may not start and an error message about an incompatible Java Runtime version is displayed. Profile Editor requires Java Runtime Environment version 6 (JRE 1.6) to work.
There have been cases where the correct Java Runtime Environment has been installed to the system but this problem has still occurred. The problem has occurred at least with Mozilla Firefox browsers.
To solve the problem, you need to first clear the Java Runtime cache:
- Open Java Control Panel by right-clicking the Java icon in the Windows System Tray and selecting "Open Control Panel" from the menu.
- On the General tab, click "Settings..." under the Temporary Internet Files section.
- In the "Temporary Files Settings" window, click "Delete Files..."
- In the dialog that opens, make sure that both "Applications and Applets" and "Trace and Log Files" are selected and click OK. This will delete the cached applets and thus force them to be reloaded when used the next time.
Next, you need to download and reinstall the latest version of Java Runtime Environment from Sun Microsystems at the following address: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.
Finally, after you have reinstalled Java Runtime Environment, you need to restart your web browser to make sure it takes the new Java Runtime Environment into use.
