What to do if computer is infected?

How to detect a virus if you have F-Secure Anti-Virus?

You have two options

• You may download stand-alone tool for virus removal
• You may use F-Secure Anti-Virus product to clean the computer

1. Tools

• You may download stand-alone tools from here and from here.

2. Using F-Secure Anti-Virus product

Please check following things:

1) Check that your Anti-Virus software is running (real-time protection enabled)

• You may check that by double clicking the blue 'F-Secure' icon next to system tray
• It should say that your virus protect is "Enabled"

2) Check that your Anti-Virus software is the latest version

• Right click the blue 'F-Secure' icon and select 'About'
• Latest home user versions are
  • F-Secure Anti-Virus 2004
  • F-Secure Internet Security 2004

3) Check that your Anti-Virus databases are up-to-date

• Please notice that the product will download databases automatically if connection to Internet is open
• Double click the blue 'F-Secure' icon next to system tray
• Use 'Check Now' button in 'Automatic Updates'- section of F-Secure settings
• You can see the database date in 'Automatic Updates' section
• By pressing Check Now, it will also check if new databases are available

4) Scan your computer manually

• Double click the blue 'F-Secure' icon next to system tray
• Go to 'Virus protection'- section of F-Secure settings and choose 'Scan for viruses now' button

  
  

5) Check the scanning result

• Check from the result after scanning to see if your computer was infected or not
• If there are no infections your computer is clean.
• If an infection is found, disinfection wizard will open automatically
• Please select 'remove viruses automatically (recommended)' and then select 'next' and follow instructions. Disinfection wizard will guide you through of the virus removal operation.
