How to clean a compressed file?

How to clean a compressed file (archives)?

Background on cleaning archives (compressed files)

F-Secure Anti-Virus can be configured to scan inside archives. With the current versions of F-Secure antivirus products, you cannot automatically disinfect a file that is inside an archive file (.cab,.zip,.rar etc.). If the infected file is inside an archive, the infection is detected but the file cannot be disinfected or removed automatically.

If the archive does not contain any valuable files, you can first disable the antivirus product and then remove the infected archive. If the archive contains valuable files and you want to get rid of the infected file only, disable first the antivirus product and extract then the archive. Then enable your antivirus product again to disinfect (or remove) the infected file and then repack it if desired.

Note: So far no malware is known to infect directly from inside of an archive file. An infected file inside an archive becomes hazardous only when the executable file is extracted to a temporary location. If the real-time scanning is enabled, the F-Secure antivirus product will detect the malicious file and disinfect, delete or rename it before it can do any harm to your computer.

Note: Remember to enable the antivirus product if you have disabled it during the removal process.
