Updating your virus definition databases

You can choose between the following options in order to update the virus database of your F-Secure Anti-Virus™ program:

1. Automatic update using F-Secure Automatic Update Agent

F-Secure Automatic Update Agent is delivered with the latest F-Secure products. This is the most convenient way to keep the databases updated as it connects to F-Secure Policy Manager Server or F-Secure's Update server automatically whenever you are on-line. F-Secure Automatic Update Agent uses incremental technology and network traffic detection to make sure that it works without disturbing other Internet usage even over a slow line.

• F-Secure Anti-Virus 200x
• F-Secure Internet Security 200x

All latest F-Secure products on Windows platform include F-Secure Automatic Update Agent.

2. Manual online update using the Check Now button

Open F-Secure Anti-Virus product's user interface by double-clicking the F-icon on Windows task bar and start the database update process by clicking the Check Now button on the Home page.

• F-Secure Internet Security 200x

3. Manual offline update using fsdbupdate or fsupdate

The fsdbupdate and fsupdate utilities work with all F-Secure Anti-Virus products for Windows. However, their use is not recommended except when there is a problem with the recommended updating method, i.e. the automatic update using F-Secure Automatic Update Agent.

The primary use-case for this update method is to update offline computers.

The fsdbupdate utility

The fsdbupdate utility is for AUA8-based products (AVCS7+, IS2007 or newer) and it contains all databases, i.e. AV, Spyware, Spam, Parental, etc.

Download and execute the fsdbupdate utility. Note that the size of the utility is approx. 25 MB.

The fsupdate utility

The fsupdate utility is for pre-AUA8-based products (AVCS6 and IS2006 or earlier) and it contains only the AV database.

Download and execute the fsupdate utility.

Note: To update the databases again, you need to download the utility again.

If you are using download manager (e.g. go!zilla, GetRight etc.) please make sure that you actually download anti-virus definition updates from F-Secure.com and not an unofficial mirror site.
