Internet Shield firewall
Q7. What should I do when the Application Control window appears?
When the Application Control pop-up appears, it asks you whether you want to allow the application to access the Internet.
Safe Applications
If you know that it is safe to allow the application to access to the Internet, select 'Do not ask again' and click Allow. Applications that can be considered safe are:
- A known application that you have actively started yourself.
- Windows services that are connecting to the Internet.
- Safe Microsoft Windows Services.
Suspicious Applications
Any application you have received from a distrusted source should always be treated with suspicion. Any application you have received from a trusted source without prior agreement should also be treated as suspicious.
If you are not sure whether you should allow the application to access the Internet, click Deny. If you are sure that you do not want to allow the suspicious application to access the Internet, select 'Do not ask again' and click Deny. Applications that can be considered unsafe are:
- Any application you have not actively installed yourself, or have no knowledge of,
- Any application, which you consider safe but which tries to connect to the Internet or act as a server without you starting it,
- A connection that displays an IP address instead of DNS name as a target, or
- Any application, which tries to start another application or manipulate another running application without you starting it.
