Before Installation
Q8. How do I remove antivirus software of other vendors from my computer?
Before installing F-Secure Internet Security, you must remove any other antivirus or firewall software.
Generally, the proper way to uninstall or remove a program or application from your computer is to follow the standard procedure: Click Start, and then Control Panel, and finally double-click Add or Remove Programs. If the program cannot be uninstalled through the Add or Remove Programs dialog, contact the vendor of the software for support and possibly ask for a removal tool.
Instructions on how to uninstall the antivirus software of other vendors:
To uninstall AVG 6, do as follows:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- Type
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Setup.exe /uninstall in the Open box and click OK.
- If a message is displayed asking if you want to run the Virus Vault, click No.
- If a message is displayed asking if you wish to continue with the uninstallation, click Yes.
- Select Restart the Computer and click OK.
To uninstall PC-cillin, do as follows:

- Type
C:\Program Files and click OK.
- Click first the Trend Micro folder, then the Internet Security 12 folder and finally click the PCCTool icon (the icon looks like a capsule with a hammer).

Phase 1: Remove software
- Click Start, and then Control Panel, and finally double-click Add or Remove Programs.

- Once you are asked to restart your computer, restart it.
- After the restart, go to
C:\Program Files, right-click on each Symantec folder and select Delete.
- While you are in
Program Files, go to the Common Files folder at or near the top of the Program Files window and delete every Symantec folder in it.
- Restart your computer again.
- After the restart, click Start, then Search, All Files and Folders and finally click More Advanced Options.
- Select all checkboxes except "Case sensitive", type in Norton and click Search.
- Delete each Norton folder from the search results by right-clicking the folder name and selecting Delete.
- Once again, restart your computer.
- Repeat steps 7 - 10. Now, however, enter Symantec as the search key.
Phase 2: Clean registry
Note: Just as folders of uninstalled security software, the presence of uninstalled security software in the Registry can conflict with the newly installed security software and cause the system to freeze up.
- Take a backup of the Registry.
- Click Start, then Run and type "regedit" in the Open box and click OK.
- Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Symantec, right-click on Symantec and select Delete.
- Go then to

- Restart your computer.
- Click Start, then Run and type "regedit" in the Open box and click OK.
- Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run and delete all Symantec entries that you find.
- Restart your computer.
