E-mail / Spam Issues
Q5. How to set up Netscape and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail programs?
Spam Control creates a spam and a phishing folder and filtering rules automatically in Microsoft Outlook,
Microsoft Outlook Express, and Windows Mail (in Windows Vista). If you are using the Netscape and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail programs, you need to create a spam and a phishing folder and filtering rules manually to filter spam.
Follow these instructions to create folders for spam and phishing e-mail messages, and filtering rules in the Netscape and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail programs.
Step 1: Create folders for spam and phishing e-mail messages
To create folders for spam and phishing e-mail messages, do as follows:
- Select File > New > Folder to create a new folder for spam e-mail messages.
- Do the following:
- Enter spam as the new folder name.
- From the Create as a subfolder of list, select the directory under which your Inbox is located.
- Click OK to create the new spam folder.
- Repeat steps 1- 3 to create a folder to which phishing e-mail messages can be filtered.
- Check that the new folders were created and are shown under your account.
Step 2: Create spam filtering rule
To filter spam e-mail messages to the spam folder, you need to create a filtering rule in the Netscape and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail programs. Before you create a spam filtering rule, make sure the spam folder exists.
To create the spam filtering rule, do the following:
- Select Tools > Message Filters.
- Click New. The Filter Rules dialog box opens.
- Enter
spam as the new filter name.
- Create a new header entry, which is used to filter spam e-mail messages:
- Select Customize... from the first list.
- In the Customize Headers dialog box, enter
X-Spam-Flag as the new message header and click
Add.
- Click OK.
- Create a rule for moving an e-mail message to the spam folder:
- From the first list, select X-Spam-Flag.
- From the second list, select contains.
- In the text box, enter
Yes as the text you want to match.

- From the first list, select Move message to.
- From the second list, select the spam folder you created earlier.
- Click OK to confirm your new spam filtering rule and to close the Filter Rules dialog box.
- Close the Message Filters dialog box.
You have now created the spam filtering rule. From now on, spam e-mail messages are filtered to the spam folder.

To create the phishing filtering rule, do the following:

- Click New. The Filter Rules dialog box opens.
- Enter
phishing as the new filter name.
- Create a new header entry, which is used to filter phishing e-mail messages:
- Select Customize... from the first list.
- In the Customize Headers dialog box, enter
X-FS-Classification-Phishing as the new message header and click Add.
- Click OK.
- Create a rule for moving an e-mail message to the phishing folder:
