Internet Shield Firewall
Q9. I have a home office/network. How can I get two computers to see each other’s files?
To enable file sharing between PCs, you need to create a firewall rule allowing Windows file and printer sharing. The Firewall Rule Wizard can help you create the rule.
To run the Firewall Rule Wizard:
- Open the F-Secure Internet Security main user interface, and click the Advanced link to open the advanced settings.
- In the Advanced page, click Internet Shield to expand the menu, and then select Firewall.
- In the Firewall page, select the Rules tab and click Add to run the Firewall Rule Wizard.
Follow the Firewall Rule Wizard to create the new rule:
Step 1: Select name and type for this rule.
- Enter a name for the rule, such as FileSharing.
- Select Allow as the rule type.
- Click Next to continue.
Step 2: Select IP address or IP address range for this rule.
- Select the Custom option and click Edit.
- In the Add Host Address(es) dialog, do the following:
- Select IP range as the type of the host address and enter the following IP range:
192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254.
- Click Add To List.
- Click OK.
- Click Next to continue.
Step 3: Select services for this rule.
- Scroll down the list and select the following services:
- Windows file sharing and network printers - once you have selected the checkbox, double-click between the computer and globe icons until a double arrow can be seen between the icons.
- Windows network browsing - once you have selected the checkbox, double-click between the computer and globe icons until a double arrow can be seen between the icons.
- Click Next to continue.
Step 4: Select alerting type.
- Select the No alert option as the alert type.
- Click Next to continue.
Step 5: New rule summary.
- Review the setting for the new rule and finally click Finish.
You should now see your new rule added to the list and it should be ticked/enabled.
You can now close the F-Secure Internet Security windows.
