F-Secure Internet Security 2008 - Back to FAQ list

Installation

Q12. Upgrade from Anti-Virus or Internet Security 2006 products to version 2008 caused decreased system performance. What should I do?

There is a significant performance impact when installing the newer product version on top of the 2006 version. Fssm32.exe takes 100% of CPU time over a period of 10-60 minutes until the computer has automatically applied the latest virus definition updates.

This issue does not affect the users who already have 2007 or 2008 version of the F-Secure Anti-Virus or F-Secure Internet Security installed on the computer. Also, this issue does not affect the users who are not currently upgrading from version 2006 to the version 2008.

If you have upgraded your F-Secure Anti-Virus 2006 or F-Secure Internet Security 2006 to the 2008 version, please leave the computer running for an hour. By that time the problem should have been solved automatically as the new definition updates have been downloaded and taken into use. If the computer is still slow after an hour, you may also contact F-Secure support.

If you have not upgraded your product yet, you can avoid the problem by uninstalling the old version first. After the uninstallation has been completed, the computer should be rebooted. After this you can install F-Secure Anti-Virus 2008 or F-Secure Internet Security 2008 without problems.

Alternatively you may also wait for new releases of the F-Secure Anti-Virus 2008 and F-Secure Internet Security 2008 which will solve this problem. Download links will be provided on this page as soon as the new releases are available.
