Q2. Why is the F-Secure Internet Security icon missing from the Windows system tray?

Check the following:

  1. In Windows XP, icons may be hidden. Click the arrow button on the Windows system tray (next to the clock) to show the hidden icons.

  2. Check that the program can be started from the Windows Start menu:
    Select Start > All Programs > F-Secure Internet Security > Open F-Secure Internet Security.

  3. Uninstall any other antivirus or firewall products from your computer.

  4. Scan the computer for viruses by using one of the following:


  5. If the instructions above do not help, make sure that Windows is updated with the latest patches:
    To check for Windows updates, double-click the Automatic Updates icon on the Windows system tray.

  6. If
    • the product icon is not shown in the system tray when you log in as a user, but the icon is shown when you log in as an administrator;
    • you receive an error message similar to: FSM32.exe - Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000022), click OK to terminate the application.;

  7. you do not have the permission to read and execute files in the following folders:
    • C:\Program Files\F-Secure (installation folder)
    • C:\Windows\system32
