How to Clean Internet Explorer Cache Folders
In
many cases, F-Secure Anti-Virus detects viruses and adware inside
Internet Explorer cache folders. These folders are used to store files
that Internet Explorer has downloaded from the Internet (images, HTML pages,
executable and script files).
These folders are located as follow:
- C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\systemprofile\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\
- C:\Documents and
Settings\<user_name>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5
Removing infection
If F-Secure Anti-Virus detects infected files inside Internet Explorer
cache folders, it is recommended that these folders be completely emptied. Since the
files in these folders are only cached copies, no actual data is lost in this
operation.
To clean Internet Explorer cache folders, do as follows:
- Open Internet Explorer and
select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The Internet Options dialog box is displayed.
- Click the Delete Files button under Temporary Internet Files. The Delete Files dialog box is displayed.
- Click the OK button which empties Internet Explorer cache folders.
