How to use F-Secure Anti-Virus for DOS (F-Prot)
Download the following files (right-click + save
as)
Then, follow the steps below
- 1. Open the zip file (fp-312d.zip) for example
with Winzip (this can be downloaded from http://www.winzip.com)
- 2. Extract files to some directory, for example
C:\F-PROT. Then copy all .def files there, overwriting the old ones.
- 3. If possible, reboot the computer in MS-DOS
mode. If this is not possible, you can also run F-Prot under windows
(select Command prompt / MS-DOS prompt from start menu), but then the
virus scanner might not be able to access all files.
- 4. Write in command-line "c:", "cd \f-prot" and
finally "f-prot". Or, if under windows, just browse to f-prot.exe and
execute it.
- 5. Choose "Scan". After this, choose "Action:
Disinfect/Query". Finally, select "Start".
- 6. If any viruses are found, you can select
after the first one "A" (All) so all will be disinfected / removed
To start F-Prot straight away, you can also write
command
C:\F-PROT\F-PROT.EXE /AUTO /HARD /DISINF /REPORT=F-PROT.LOG /APPEND
Check the F-PROT.LOG file by opening it (in DOS
mode, you can use for example command "edit c:\f-prot\f-prot.log"). If
any viruses are found and they're only in EXE/DLL files, not for
example your mailbox file, run command
C:\F-PROT\F-PROT.EXE /AUTO /HARD /DELETE /REPORT=F-PROT.LOG /APPEND
This second command will remove all infected
files. If removed files include some important windows system files,
these have to be restored from backup or from original installation
cd-rom.
Removal tools for various viruses and worms can
be downloaded from
http://www.f-secure.com/download-purchase/tools.shtml
It's recommended to run removal tool at least for
the Klez and Yaha, as these require special disinfection routine. Usage
instructions on how to use these tools are included in their zip file
(as a .txt file).
